About
March 23, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of Neil Bartlett’s textbook-changing discovery of the first noble gas compound, a discovery that took place in the UBC Chemistry Department. Although noble gases were thought to be inert, Neil Bartlett proved that they could in fact react with other compounds. This incredible breakthrough completely changed the way we think about the noble gases and opened the doors to a new field of chemistry.
Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion with guest speakers, featuring experts in fluorine chemistry and previous members of the Bartlett group, followed by a reception at Sage Bistro. The Symposium is open to all interested members of UBC and the general public.
